Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to use nlaids.nl, whatever their abilities, device or language. Our target is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the site, in Arabic, English and Dutch.

Accessibility is built into our design system and into the way we build pages:

• a clear page structure with landmarks, one main heading per page and a link to skip straight to the main content;
• full keyboard access with a clearly visible focus indicator;
• text and background colours in both the light and the dark theme, checked automatically against the AA contrast requirements;
• a right-to-left layout and dedicated Arabic typography on Arabic pages;
• text that can be enlarged, and pages that adapt to narrow screens without horizontal scrolling;
• animation that is reduced or switched off when your device asks for reduced motion;
• form fields with visible labels, instructions and error messages linked to each field.

Based on our own assessment, nlaids.nl is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA: most pages meet the standard, and the exceptions we know of are listed below. No external audit has been carried out yet.

We are working on the following:

• Some older pages and live forms, such as event registration, programme enrolment and the careers form, have not yet been fully moved to our current design system. They may show inconsistent focus indicators, contrast or spacing, and some are available in the light theme only.
• Our forms need JavaScript to submit. If a form does not work for you, email us instead.
• Certificates are issued as PDF files that may not be fully accessible to screen readers. Ask us for an accessible version.
• Event check-in uses the QR code on your ticket. Our staff can also check you in without scanning it.

The site relies on HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript and is designed to work with current browsers and assistive technologies. During development we check accessibility with automated contrast tests, keyboard testing and reviews of right-to-left layouts.
